This qualification covers skills common to the construction industry, as well as specialist fields of work in wall and ceiling lining.  Apprentices will learn to:

- fix battens and mix plastering compounds
- install, apply and finish plasterboard, fibre cement sheeting,   pre-cast fibrous plaster sheets and mouldings, partitions and suspended ceiling systems
- fix standard plasterboard sheets to walls and ceilings
- carry out measurements and calculations
- read and interpret plans and specifications

(ICF) denotes an Industry Curriculum Framework Course. An optional HSC exam in these courses is available to contribute to the Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank.

The Board of Studies will add units of competency that are listed in the school-based component of a students training plan which are not currently available in the relevant ICF SBA pathway.

To facilitate this schools are asked to complete the Application for inclusion of additional unit(s) of competency to the SBA pathway of an ICF form.
